Blanchardstown-based Cyber Security company, CommSec, has been nominated for two awards at this year’s Fingal Chamber Business Awards. The company is nominated in the Innovation and International Trade categories.

As a previous winner of the Fingal Chamber Best SME of the Year Award in 2019, CommSec is no stranger to these awards and knows the value of being considered for them. CommSec’s CEO David McNamara remarks, “the Best SME Award really was a turning point for us in terms of our growth and commercialisation of our professional services, and this year we are delighted to have another chance to win in two very important categories.”

CommSec is being recognised for their Business Secure service for the Best Innovation in Business award. The service was developed during the pandemic to give SMEs access to enterprise-level cyber security. David remarks, “the business was borne out of a need to protect small and medium-sized businesses from cybercriminals. We know the difficulties small businesses face regarding funding and the lack of resources in IT security. Cyber security is a focus for many SMEs as cyber criminals target them due to lack of effective controls.  We responded with an all-in-one package, based on our expertise and international security standards, which provides SMEs all the basic cyber security controls, monitoring and helpdesk. This service would normally be out of reach for your typical SME. We also had to pivot to turn our B2B website into an eCommerce site that accepts subscription payments. That was a real learning curve for us.”

In the Best International Trade category, CommSec has been shortlisted for CheckScan+, a vulnerability scanning service. CommSec, an Enterprise Ireland client company, developed the service to help keep organisations safe from weaknesses in software that hackers try to exploit. we saw a real gap in the market for a professional service around hunting for vulnerabilities. The platform scans organisations’ networks, web apps, devices, and APIs, to detect and provides reporting to prioritise the fixes called patching. John Killilea, Technical Director at CommSec adds,”2022 has proved a poignant year for vulnerability scanning with approximately 2,000 new vulnerabilities being found every month and with highly publicised threats like the Log4j, ProxyShell and several Microsoft vulnerabilities”. International success for CheckScan+ is high on CommSec’s priorities. Since its launch CheckScan+ has gone from strength to strength, gaining customers in Ireland but also resellers abroad in the UK, US, Australia, and Singapore.

The Fingal Chamber Business Awards take place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, on Friday the 18th of November.
