Primeline Chooses CommSec for Enterprise SIEM Services

Foundations for Cloud strategy now in place with new network infrastructure and SOC services

Dublin, 25th May 2020 Primeline Group has announced that it has just completed a major network and security infrastructure overhaul with CommSec.

The new network infrastructure enables the company to pursue its growth strategy and embrace a Cloud centric IT model for the future. The project has also seen Primeline now utilise an enterprise class SIEM service, delivered by CommSec, which ensures 24×7 security monitoring and dramatically lowering the company’s security risk.

Due to the continuous organic and acquisition growth of the business in recent years, Primeline needed to overhaul its core network to build the foundation for a new Cloud based IT model. After being initially chosen for an IT security audit, CommSec were eventually selected to design and implement the new network infrastructure and then build a new security service around Primeline’s requirements.

After extensive evaluation, a total re-design of the network was undertaken which incorporated everything from internet access, to new firewalls, routers and switches etc. Huawei and Fortinet technology were chosen as they delivered the best combination of advanced features with excellent ROI figures.

The entire project was completed in six months and cost approximately €200k.

Primeline now has a highly sophisticated Security Incident Event Management (SIEM) service in place, which is delivered by the team in CommSec through the CommSec Security Operations Centre (SOC). All network traffic and potential security events are now patrolled by the CommSec SOC team – ready to investigate and take appropriate action when a threat is detected. The use of advanced network operations tools gives the Primeline IT team and the CommSec SOC team full 24×7 on-site visibility of all network traffic.

Primeline CIO, John Shaw said: “We began this process to enable our future IT strategy of using the Cloud to deliver applications to the business. We chose to work with CommSec because they demonstrated a strong ethos of security by design and took the time to really understand what we were trying to achieve for the business. We are very confident that we have built a solid foundation to support the Cloud strategy and the future growth of Primeline.”

CommSec Managing Director David McNamara said: “This project really demonstrates the value of starting with an IT security audit – we quickly got a clear sense of Primeline’s security situation and an understanding of their network and it’s vulnerabilities. By taking a partnership approach with the IT team in Primeline, we achieved a lot in a short space of time and they now have a cutting-edge security system in place with 24×7 monitoring and a high-performance wired and WiFi network that will enable their Cloud strategy.”
